Patty, I have 90 Multivan with auto, you may lose 2-3 mpg because of the automatic otherwise I have found the automatic quite satisfactory. There is a seal between the differential and autotrans that sometimes fails but other than that I like the automatic. If everything else looks good on this van I wouldn't let the automatic be to much of a concern. Good Luck Tim
