Jason wrote yesterday i went to top off the oil b/c after about 2000 miles she burns close to a quart. when i took off the filler cap it was gooed up and down with what appeared to be the foam of the great guiness.

Jason air cooled engines have all they can do to warm up in the winter even with a thermostat. they can come up to a reasonable running temp only after there is a load on the engine for a atleast 15 to 30 min depending on the outside air temp. repeated short trips and low engine temps ads fuel to the crankcase. low oil temps make it impossible for the acumulation fuel and moisture to evaporate. when gas is added to oil it passes by the rings and leaks from all the gaskets. the fuel oil mix also makes a poor lubricant. these facts are my case for having a tstat, changing the oil at 1500 miles and not running syntetic oils with longer change intervals in the air cooled engines Bob Donalds http://www.bostonengine.com
