Subject: Engine noise?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

Another day, another question, After a recent head job on my '90 Westy, 124k miles, which included a valve grind, new push rods, new lifters, etc., when the engine is started cold, there is a noise best described as "chf-chf-cfh" ( I'm not very good at describing engine noises), coming from the engine. It is not a metallic sound, nor clanking nor rattling. Not coming from alternator, nor power steering pump. The noise goes away or at least is greatly diminished when the engine warms up. Any ideas? Do hydraulic lifters make noise? By the way, briefly, how do hydraulic lifters work? Jerry P.S. Check out the background on Sen. McCain's speech this morning in Sedona. That's my view, only from 20 miles away! Can't afford Sedona. There's a European car specialist up there, but he won't touch Vanagons. "Too hard to satisfy their owners", he says.
