Tom:

I had a most defintive "clunk" after I had brand new KYB shocks installed last spring. The clunk was up front, under the driver's and passenger's seats. The clunk was lessened considerably when I returned my van to the shop and I believe they added a shim or two to prevent the shock from "clunking". I am looking at the repair worksheet right now and having difficulty reading the handwriting: it may also say something about squaring off the top of the shock?

A previous post on this subject recommended shaving down the mounting bolt by a few milimeters (search archives under " Re: Westy Makes Thumping Noise When Going Over Bumps, 5/1/99), which of course, might accomplish the same thing.
