Hey Erik --

Isn't it great when fixing VWs goes the way it is supposed to go?? Of course the nice day may have had something to do with it.

Yesterday our Maryland weather was glorious... I took a look at the brushes in my Bosch alternator and decided it was time to replace them. Parts already on hand from www.carparts.com but these were gypper brushes, not a Bosch reg+brush assembly. The original brush leads were crimped-in at the end opposite the brush... so I had to cut off the crimp collar. Had the foresight (amazing for me) to use some duct tape to contain the springs, which pop out with the brushes when you cut the crimp collar. I needed to make a fixture (few chunks of wood, really) to hold the brush+reg assy for soldering -- which was OK since my table saw is practically outdoors. A walk to a neighbor's house for a couple of 0-80 brass washers, a little soldering time.....

Some of my friends would have preferred a golf course or baseball game. Maybe soon I can get going on my 69 Baywindow and figure out the spongy brakes. Have a great weekend.....
