Hi Jeff -

Welcome aboard!

Captain's chair swivel latch is in front of and below the seat bottom. Find the steel loop protruding, push and hold it DOWN, then turn chair. May be stiffer than you think it should be - this is common. Remedy is removing seats and cleaning tracks and swivel base.

I think I have a fuse cover I can send you - I think the '87 is the same as the '88. A helpful thing would be to send a message to contact@wagonworks.com so I get it at the shop. That way I'll be reminded when I'm there and you've got a good chance to get it.

Pop-top seal is easy. Set is available from European American RV parts (although last time I checked Pete didn't have the flat extruded strip that covers the front edge of the pop-top, but that's a while ago. His phone number is in the Vendors section of Vanagon.com. A great resource for Westy kitchen parts.) Or you can get it from GoWesty.com - they always seem to have the flat seal. Some adhesive is required on the flat strip - I think it comes in the package. An easy hours work, including time to clean everything well before installing the new gasket.

Have fun!

Coby

I just bought an '87 Westfalia.

I've been lurking on this site since list before I bought the vanagon and have found it really insightful, but lacking an owner's manual, I am having difficulty finding answers to a few embarrassingly simple questions and would really appreciate it if someone could help me out.

1) How do I refill the windshield wiper fluid? I can't locate the fluid reservoir.

2) For the life of me, I cannot figure out how to rotate the "captains chairs", I've seen it done once before, but I can't seem to make it work.

3) Can someone recommend a good parts supplier to get a plate cover for the fuse box (hopefully with the correct fuse diagram on the inside for this make & model)?

4) How difficult is it to replace or re-attach the gasket/seal on the pop-top? Mine is coming away in various places. If any one has any suggestions or advice for doing this I would appreciate it.

Thanks!

-Jeff '87 Westy
