Subject: Re: List Sticker... debacle or debate?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1"

I have to admit I've been reading these posts with a fair amount of amusement and dismay. I submitted an entry, something reasonable and simple--not designed to be seen at 60 mph or at a long distance away. I imagine whatever the list sticker ends up being, if the design is stuck with and not changed every year it will be identifiable to most of the active participants of this list if it can be seen at all. All of the entries fit that requirement.

And that is how logos are really supposed to work. Even a poorly designed corporate symbol achieves recognition and value after a period of time. So whether it's vanagon.com, .org, or a list address--it seems pointless to worry much about it. What we need is a consensus on what that sticker should be and what it should say. And once that decision is made, it's not something we should change every year.

I'm a graphic designer, too long in my career to take it with much seriousness anymore. I urge clients to remember that too much debate internally doesn't guarantee that the object/viewer of the effort is going to get any of the intellectual masturbation that goes on in making these decisions. I do good work when the client lets me, lower quality work when they dabble too much. The viewer views what they want to see. From what I'm reading, I sense some of us feel like we need a focus group on this thing. And I disagree

My two cents worth (and vote for my entry <grin>)
