Did the propane leak out only when opening the valve?  Mine did it too
(sub freezing) and leaked (more than a small hiss) when opening the
valve, but didn't leak once the valve was all the way open.  Startled me
a little, but since my dad has always driven a propane powered van, I'm
used to a little propane spewing now and then.  Propane valves are
designed to be only fully open and not partially open, so I think it can
leak if there is some thermal contraction, but should seat once fully
open.


Or, it could be that I'm driving a time bomb...
