Glad to hear that there are aluminum wheels that will fit without much modification. But surely the studholes needed enlarging? Michael Modl, please tell us what rim width they are, and what offset!

Anyone else out there have aftermarket wheels on their Vanagon which fit out-of-the-box?

My van has chrome 14" spoked wheels which will rust, and I'd like a set of larger-diameter alloys to take advantage of the handling characteristics of lower-profile tires.

I had steel 1980s Mercedes 15x7" wheels on my 1975 bus, and these needed enlargement of the studholes and the seats enlarged, as the 1975 VW stud diameter is larger and the seats of the nuts have a different curvature. The 205/65R15s fitted rubbed on the suspension trailing-arms at parking speeds, resulting in a much-increased turning circle. I haven't had the chance to try these wheels/tires on my Caravelle.
