Hi all,

Check the bearings!

The only time I experienced a loose rear axle nut was when the bearing had started to disintegrate. I had noticed an increased noise from the rear when turning left. It turns out the right axle nut was loose and the bearing was toast. With the nut already loose replacing the bearing was fairly straight forward.

Hi Gang,

I just tackled replacing the CVs on the passenger rear of my Syncro where I had been hearing crunch scrapes and wheezes. I figured that the CV was dry and gone. I pulled it all appart and there was still some grease but the bearings fell out very easy.

Ok now for the big nut. I was holding on the the brake drum to loosen the friggen allen bolts when I noticed alot of play. Turns out the big nut (46 mm?) was friggen loose and the axle had a little play. I got the biggest cresent wrench which opened to the exact size and stumped on that as hard as I could. I figured it was not 500 Nm but it will hold until I can get the right tools.
