Bentley be damned! Just a bit of Deutsche Methode excess here! ;-)

This is just an unnecessary and messy step that serves no purpose other than to sell blue silicone. Use it if you must, but no seal is needed here and you just make it more difficult to separate the two next time. In fact it is not completely sealed anyway, so that any oil that might leak out of the main seal will drain out of the gap left at the bottom of the case.

PS, It might serve a purpose in an upright engine with a leaky valve cover gasket. It could help keep oil out of the bell housing, but this is really reaching to find a use for it!
