I found the problem today. I installed two new relays that I had to rule this out. Then I took a new ignition switch with me and tried to take a trip to town. The van died when I backed into the street (pretty low traffic around here so not a problem). I tried to restart and it was acting the same with relays clicking, etc. I removed the lower cover on the steering column and tried the new ignition switch, turning it with a screw driver. Van still wouldn't start. So I decided to install my digitool equiped ECU ala Darrell to see if I could figure anything out this way. After installing my known good ECU the problem totally disappeared (along with some weird idling problems that the van was having). I drove the van enough today to be sure that the ECU must have been the trouble. Thanks for all of those who gave advice and opinions. Rico hit it right on the money, but this was one of those gremlins that could have driven you crazy if you didn't have a good ECU to swap in. The List is great!
