The problem that you have here is if you had some kind of shunt to allow you to test a van with the digitool without removing the ECU, how would you install it? The only way would be to unplug the ECU, plug in this shunt connector, and then plug the ECU connector into some kind of other connector (that might not exsist) and hook up the digitool. This is actually more work than just swapping in a digitool equipped ECU. The only advantage this would have is that it would allow you to keep your ECU in your own van (alot of us don't have the luxoury or having a spare digitool equipped ECU lying around) while testing another van.

If the Vanagon only had some kind of OBD II port or something similar where you could just hook in a tool and then unplug it when done.

I am not flaming here, just voicing my own frustration at a similar problem. I want some kind of plug and play digitool, but I just can't see how you could do it.
