So the starter is the culprit? I seem to remember Ed with an 84 Westy had
the same problem. I think others at the time mentioned the neutral safety
switch or the solenoid. Anything resolved?
There were a couple of threads turning along that I thought I might comment
on. First, the cupholders. I bought a really nice Rubbermaid 6-pack cooler
from WalMart for about $20, and the tray it sits in has two cupholders just
meant for a Big Gulp. Fits between the seats perfectly. Best thing is, and
I hope there aren't any thieves paying attention, but the cooler holds about
20 CDs nicely. Of course, if you stomp on the gas the unit slides to the
back under hard acceleration. And if you believe that ...
Secondly, I might have missed it but who out there makes a nice canoe
carrying rack for a Westy? I've been using the foam cushions which actually
work well, but I've only seen a Thule unit that required drilling. I think
you could take the rack off when not in use, but drilling gives me shivers.
I've been thinking about mounting a sail on top, just to give it some oomph.
I'll be looking at some front shocks soon, and I think the consensus is that
KYBs seem to be the way to go for a good balance between price and quality.
If this is not the case, please let me know. I'm also looking for some rear
springs for my 85 Westy, as the rear end sags evenly on both sides. Was
David at FastForward looking into something a while back?
And finally, with all this business about the list, I wanted to make sure a
couple of people who helped me out knew how much I appreciated their advice.
Alan Pickersgill and Donald Baxter took a lot of time to answer my
questions, and Marshall Ruskin is going to turn me into a techie whether I
like it or not (and I mean that in the nicest way) when our vehicles get
disassembled in a prairie field this summer. My fridge is going to make
ice, honest.
