The ignition switch must be suspected in so many cases that now I "replace" it first thing. I don't actually put one in the steering lock housing unless it proves to be bad. I remove the plastic cover below the steering column, unplug the harness to the ignition switch and plug it into a new switch. Then I use a flat blade screw driver to operate the new one. If the problem is fixed with this temporary switch I install it permanently. You still need the key in the lock to unlock the steering but you can drive around with the temporary switch to see if the problem is gone. I always carry a new switch in my glove box as these problems pop up unexpectedly. The other thing I would try for this customer is DIGITOOL, DIGITOOL, DIGITOOL!
