That's why it's there!

If you don't have a cover, you could short out the battery and very well could cause a fire.

If your battery came out of the hole, it probably will go back in. You may have some sort of gunk, or maybe a bolt under the battery.

So far as Arizona, I'd stay in NY. I've been trying to get out of here for twenty years, but have too many commitments. Jobs, family, etc. The waterboxers run well here in the summertime, but air-cooleds tend to have valve problems. If you have a Westy, the rear AC units aren't worth a damn here until you've driven 20 or 30 miles; and even then, if you're driving into the sun, forget it.

Would you be relocating to Phoenix?
