Alan,
Three things I would like to point out,
(1) I wasn't talking about a show truck paint job,I was talking about a
decent paint job with a resonable amount of durability. Who the heck
would want to spend all the time and money, and then have the paint
chaulk out in 6 months?
(2) The paint booth idea sounds good, however make sure that you don't
use plastic tarps, because they hold static electricity real good and
they will attract mass quanities of dust to your working area.

I just painted a frame of a semi, and I purchased the cheapest paint
dupont had   (Dulux) and that was $72.00 a gallon.
I'm not sure what your getting for $35.00,it must be some real
garbage.After you spend all this time, preparing your van to paint, why
in the heck would you want to paint it with some low grade paint, that's
not going to last?
You'd be better off taking the van to Earl Scheib or Maico.For $400.00
it's got a cheap, lok good for awhile paint job.
