Yes, it can be done...in fact, it's pretty straightforward. We just put a big floorjack and jackstands under the engine. Leave the hydraulic part of the clutch attached to the system so you don't have to drain fluid. Then it's a couple of bolts.

Toughest part was getting the clutch lever to come off since the new tranny didn't come with one.

Get a new clutch while you're at it. No better time to do it. Same with throwout bearing and pilot bearing. Some of these come with the Sachs clutch kits that I got.

BTW, Dale Ward is still running around in his '84 bus with my old clutch. :-) We took it for a ride in his parents' back field when I was up recently.
