Just read a few comments on how many hits the sticker site got and how
few members have voted. I just wanted to say that I have not voted
because it's rare that I stick anything on my van (or any cars I have).
It's not that I don't like the submissions. Not sure if this is the
reason other members are not voting though.
What I probably will do for myself is get vinyl cut lettering saying
"www.vanagon.com" and put it somewhere on the van. Either bottom side
rear windows and back window. Or just under the Vanagon emblem on the
back door. This way I can control the color, size and ultimate intensity
of the logo on my particular van. I was going to suggest any ways that
the winning sticker be cut from vinyl. A predetermined set of sizes and
colors could be available (say 3 different sizes and 6 different
colors). Being vinyl cut letters (the same material used for exterior
signage) there really is little cost savings for mass reproduction runs
like in printing. So you can give the sign guy one logo file and he can
size it and group cut the logos based on the orders. Exterior vinyl
holds up good too. Comes off using a hair drier so you can put it on
your body.
ANOTHER SUGGESTION: regarding being able to see the "logo" from a
passing vanagon at 75 miles per hour - well that goes toward the
"intensity" issue I was talking about. If you can see it at 75mph from a
passing vehicle, imagine it a 15mph from 10 feet away? Ouch! How about
this: a hand signal. There is nearly always enough time to signal to
someone your passing to see if they are on the list. If I could submit
one really, really, really original idea that I had which was the "V"
sign (you know, peace, love and "V"anagon). If the passing Vanagon does
the same you know you just made "contact". If they are not on the list,
well they will think your just an old hippie. I'm open to other
suggestions. Maybe the second driver holds the "V" upside down just for
deliberate confirmation. There has got to be some signal/counter signal
thing we could do.
Any ways, that's my two cents. My apologies to my fellow artists out
there. I know there was a lot of time put in there.
