Ahhhh, I would be VERY surprised if the Auto Club knew much a about a vanagon... much less a Syncro (which is the expensive part to fix). Go to www.vanagon.com and look for the recommended mechanics... if you can't find one the I guess the closest VW dealer would be your second best bet.... but definitely use a shop that works on vanagons, and hopefully syncros, regularly... there's a lot to know.
