Hey Richard, Mine is an 83 but I think the refrigerators are pretty similar. Mine makes no noise at all no matter which setting it is on, 120V, 12V or Gas. On Gas or 120 V it takes about two hours for it to cool noticeably, but the aluminum fins get colder sooner. I have not noticed any cooling effect on the 12 V setting.
