It is possible to swap a Golf / Jetta / Scirocco tachometer into a Vanagon, but you have to know what you are doing and be prepaired to spend a few hours on the task. I have a 1987 Scirocco 16V tachometer in my 1984 Westie that shows a 7000rpm redline, which is more suited for the I4 that is in there in place of the wbx. I can do the installation of a supplied A Series VW tachometer (need the style with the TWO gauges) for about 3 hours labour which would turn into about $100 USD. This setup looks factory and it is a lot more eye appealing than a seperate tach hanging off somewhere!
