Hi, I know this has been discussed at length before, but here I go.......... I've just rebuilt a 1989 2.1 liter using the old lifters (150,000kms, 95,000 miles). Now it seems the lifters do not want to bleed down/adjust properly. They behave like solid lifters. The lifters sat on my bench for about a week, all in an upright position. I did not disassemble or do anything to them. Just put them back in as is. Engine now has about 300 miles on it. I tried adjusting with 2 turns of preload like Bentley says. Then I tried with zero clearance, zero preload. Then I tried with 6 thou of clearance, cold. With 6 thou of clearance hot compression increases 10 - 15 psi over zero clearance - zero preload. Whats going on here? Any ideas? Will more hours on the engine have any affect? Thanks Gary |
