Subject: advice on 80-83.5 engine convrsn?
Content-Type: text/plain; format=flowed

I have been looking at the TIICO 2L Golf Motronic engine conversion for the 83.5-91 Vanagons. I have a 80 Westy. Besides the fact that I would have to put in a radiator and hoses to the front of vehicle and maybe a alternator w/mount. I do not see why this would not work in the older Vanagons like mine. Does anyone have in-depth knowledge of the differences between the model years? For example, is the engine compartment the same size? would the trany have to be traded for a wasserboxer trany? If so are they compatible?

My main concerns are will it fit without modifying the engine compartment lid and if it will then what other parts will I then have to trade out from a wasserboxer.

I know this could get expensive but I want my van to eventually be around for a long time.
