I was pleasantly shocked to find that a > new muffler is only $124.99. The clincher is that ---- if I hang on to the > bill ---- it's lifetime guaranteed!!!! I couldn't get anywhere > near this price anywhere else I've looked ---- and I love the lifetime > aspect as that's how long I want to keep my van. Four years ago, I replaced the original VW muffler on my '87 Westfalia with a Canadian Tire muffler and it's still going strong. There's no way to justify spending $700 on a new VW muffler (with only a 1 year warranty) when a reasonable substitute with a lifetime warranty can be had for under $150. The muffler is somewhat noisier than the stock VW but the price difference makes it sound just the same to me! ;>)
