Hello everyone I am new to the list and am also new to owning a Vanagon. '87. I have owned several Beetles and have done major engine and body work on them. This is different of course. I have a problem and have been unable to figure it out. The engine quit as though it ran out of gas or has no fire. It has both. I checked the distributer to see if the rotor was turning and was timed and it is. It has an engine control unit (computer) and I am wondering if this can be tested. My Bently book doesn't say anything about it. I had a Beetle that "mooed" when the engine started and I had new bushings installed in the starter and that stopped the moo. Also for Tod and the coolant leak. What you are describing may be the valve used to get air out of the system. Does anyone know where to get aftermarket electronics? VW is real pricey. Maybe Brazil or Mexico stuff.
