GL for early water-cooled VWs meant that they had some sort of upgrade (i.e., my Quantum GL means all power windows, doorlocks, cruise control--standard Quantum did not have power anything). However, Wolfsburg Editions also came with varying equipment. Mine does not have cruise control, but there were others at the dealer when I bought mine that did. Some did not have alloy wheels but were identical to mine otherwise (mine came with the alloys). In 1987 the Wolfsburgs were lowered a bit. I don't know about other years.

Donna, 1987 Wolfsburg, etc.

This mirrors my experience in looking for my Westy: Weekender meant a variety of things, GL meant a variety of things, and Wolfsburg meant a variety of things. And most people are quite certain that their version is THE version.
