Subject: door pocket in my '90 Westy Multivan

I've got a 1990 Westy Multivan. On the driver's door, there's an open pocket at the bottom of the door. It protrudes out from the door an inch or two, it's about 7" or 8" deep, and it's probably 3/4ths of the width of that part of the door. Over the years, it's cracked from my leg bumping it. It's finally at the point that it looks bad. I've called the local VW wrecking yard, and they've told me that I'm not going to find a replacement anywhere. Anyone know a solution to this problem? Is it going to mean finding the entire inside door panel somewhere, which the wrecking yard doesn't think that I'll find one? Has anyone made their own, one that will be more durable than the original?
