For whatever it is worth I put rust converter on my pipes the day before yesterday. After a number of hours driving over two days all still looks like it did a couple of hours after I put it on. Seems to me that if the heat itself was going to damage the "primer finish" something would have happened by now. Wether or not repeated heat/cool/heat/cool... will do anything remains to be seen.
