Subject: Filler pipe coatings?
Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" ; format="flowed"

I've got an 82 diesel with rust in the tank, possibly in the filler pipe as well. I think I'm going to just replace the tank with a new one, but I'd like to reuse my filler pipe if possible.

If, after pulling the tank and pipe, it turns out my pipe is rusty, is there a coating available to keep the rust in the pipe at bay and isolated from the fuel? I'm thinking along the lines of applying a rust converter like POR-15's Metal Ready to the inside of the pipe, followed by a plastic-type (fuel resistant) coat or some such.

I want something that'll really work, and will stick permanently to the interior of the pipe, since I do not want my "flakes of rust" problem to be replaced by a "flakes of anti-rust coating" problem. (!).

If anyone has done this, can offer any experiences, or suggest specific products, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks!
