Rex,

Congrats on getting a Westy at a decent price, even considering that it needs work.

If the Westy is a 4 speed, go down to FL and tow it back by using a towbar. You can use your 84 GL as a tow vehicle, although a heavier, more powerful tow vehicle would be better.

If the Westy is an automatic, you will need to use a four wheel auto transporter and a legitimate tow vehicle (like a full size pick-up or SUV) because those transporters are heavy. If you were only going a short distance, you could possibly squeek by with your 84 GL, but just barely.

Alternately, you could try driving it back home, and use the tow mode only if the Westy's engine fails. You would be surprised how far you can travel in the "limp home" mode if you have to. Just don't push it very hard, especially in the hills of GA and TN.

I have towed vans thousands of miles with my 86 Syncro. It works fine and you can easily cruise at 60-65 mph on the level.

Please contact me if you have any questions. Good luck.
