My advice is to spend the extra $26 on a set of KYBs, which are
available from the list vendors.


I have had the KYB Gas Adjust on the rear for about 160,000 miles now,
and GR-2's on the front for about 130,000 miles (they came out later for
the Vanagon, about 1991), and all are still in excellent condition.


You can't beat this performance, and I would be cautious of getting
front shocks that are too hard for the light Vanagon front end.  Stick
with a known commodity, I think you will get the same opinion from
others on the list.
