As I recall the Studebake Avanti came out with a set of gages in a panel just
above the top of the window...just like in the cockpit of the airliners. The car
was way ahead of it's time. Aluminum frame, fiberglas body, etc, etc. American
public thought it to strange. Wouldn't buy it. Company closed. A fine vehicle was
moved into private production - custom orders only.

Once in a while I see an Avanti here in Birmingham. I know there are two here at
least.
