If it's blue, it's a filament bulb with a blue cover over it. Sounds like
a poor connection, maybe at the instrument panel plug, but I suppose it's
barely possible that the bulb has so much tungsten deposited on the inside
that it has turned black. It's more of a problem with these tiny bulbs b/c
there's so much less surface compared to the amount of filament. But you'd
have to be running your high beams an awful lot. Might also be bad contact
where the bulb plugs into the flexi-circuit, but I tend to doubt it. Or
the series resistor going bad. If you can, follow the volts around the
circuit -- the only drops should be across the resistor and across the
bulb, and those two should total to system voltage. I would imagine that
they're running the bulb at around ten volts, but don't know. Could
measure and find out if you need it, but it's a minor PITA. I have a panel
lying open; unfortunately it has a green LED so it won't match yours.
