The Vanagon alternators are the same as the Golf and Jetta alternators with the exception of the pulley - just swap the pulley over. What's going on it? If it is the bearings they are $20 for both ends and a six pack of beer at the local machine shop to get them pressed out. If it is the regulator they are in the $40 range to get replaced. It could also be the brushes... $10 bucks from any autoparts store...
