They are very interesting birds, and very profitable. (50 tail feathers per year x $1.50 per feather X 10 birds = keeping a Westy going. (VW content.)) They tend to go 'walkabout' in the spring, especially yearling males who have their first real tails and are looking for mates. Peafowl are a flock bird: the flock is dominated by an Alpha male who won't let other males breed. The young males will put up with this for a time, but from time to time one will decide he's had ewnough. If yours roosts near you he'll be calling early morning and late at night to attract a mate. |
