If you need to know for sure, almost the ENTIRE VW parts inventory/assembly
pics are available through a CD. I re-post the following. I have received
the CD (though I haven't had time to mess with it yet, swamped with work).
Cheers:

Hi fellow VW enthusiasts,
I'm writing you about a VW Parts CD discussed on the VW Diesel bulletin
boards in early March. I have offered to obtain the CD and make copies
available reasonably for those interested. I am not in business and am only
attempting to cover the cost of my time, supplies and shipping. The CD is
free for your personal use only (an attempt to avoid any copyright laws).
Shipping and handling will cost you $7.50 US. I am located on the West
coast of the US and will ship to North American destinations via mail. If
interested in obtaining a copy of this CD, please contact me by return
E-mail. I will E-mail you with my address for you to send payment along
with your return address. When payment is received, I will ship the CD to
you.
This CD is a parts listing with exploded parts assembly views, part names
and VW part numbers. It is not like a service manual as it does not tell
you or show you how things come apart or go together or give wear
tolerances or fastener torques. However, It is VERY useful! MY copy of
the CD arrived yesterday from Mark Harries in England and I have had an
opportunity to install it on my laptop and verify functionality. Note: some
of the features such as updating and parts ordering are not functional for
obvious reasons. In addition, there is no support for the software (i.e.,
don't call your local VW dealer or VOA for help!). It is best to contact
myself or one of the VW Diesel bulletin boards for assistance. I am running
Win98 and assume that the software will also run on Win95 machines. Some of
you have asked about compatibility with Apple Macintosh computers. I cannot
address your question.
But, I doubt that the software and CD are compatible with Apple Macintosh
computers. The software and database must be installed on your computer and
then it can be run without the CD. It takes approximately 325 MB of hard
drive space. It is also important to use a monitor resolution of 1280 X
1024 to view correctly. My laptop uses a 800 X 600 resolution LCD display.
I set it to the 1280 X 1024 resolution when running the software. The
Readme First text file should be looked at and printed before installation.
It explains how to activate the pricing feature (Its probably in the new
Euro currency).
If your interest in VWs is anything like mine, I think you will find this
CD very useful and interesting. This CD was obviously created to cover
European VW gas and diesel models, many of which were never imported into
North America. I am not familiar with all of the models listed on the CD.

is a list of models covered on this CD:

Subject: Re: [Audi-VW-Diesels] Oil cooler question
Joe says, "I was at the dealer the other day, and asked the same question
to the parts manager.
His answer was that they don't interchange. I think they do, and besides
your input I asked the local parts guy I buy from about it and he says
they're the same too. He brought up an interesting suggestion though. He
said I should re-torque the headbolts and see if that clears up the oil
problem in the coolant tank.
Any thoughts?"
I wondered the same thing about other parts and would get different answers
too. (TD Exhaust valves VS. NA diesel valves). You just about have to
look at the parts fisch yourself to get the right answer. Didn't someone
on the list get a set and a reader? Also, just about every VW par thas a
number somewhere on it.
As for retorquing, I wouldn't do it if you've already done the 1,000 mile
final torque. Its not a torque wrench reading, but a so many angle turn,
so you risk stretching the bolts beyond threir yield point. How about
raceware studs? I hear they can be installed w/ the head on (one at at
time?) and reused if this does not work and the head has to come off.
