It's just a mileage counter. There's a black box with a button in-line with the odo cable that runs from the left front wheel to the odometer. Push the button to reset. See: http://www.vanagon.com/problems/oxs-light.html If you haven't replaced it in a while, I'd pick up a spare OXS and toss it in the glove box.
