Inline four cylinder engines with exhaust manifolds and flywheel weigh in at ~250lbs. Just the block is under 150lbs.

I have found engine stands are too large for the VW engines! I got my machine shop to make a ring that is the same size as the bellhousing and weld nuts onto that so the "fingers" on the engine stand can spread out far enough and evenly.

Personally I would look into getting a new 1.9L engine and installing it... 75hp is a lot better than 48!
