Subject: Re: Analog dash clock
Comments: To: Garrett Adams <gadams@JPS.NET>

Garrett,

About 10 years ago my clock quit and I was able to fix it.

These clocks are part electronic and part mechanical. An electronic timing circuit discharges a capacitor into a coil on a regular basis. The pulsing magnetism from the coil moves the mechanical part of the clock. When mine failed, I still observed a twitching on the second hand and thus I expected to find a partially stripped gear. What I did fine was that the capacitor that discharges into the coil was bad. I replaced it and the clock has run just fine since.
