My Syncro has automatic lights, all 1985-up sold in both Norway and Sweden has this. I also saw the wiring diagram in the Bentley, so you can wire it up yourself.

Now this is easier, but a lot more expensive! Hella sell a kit, but it costs US$ 240. You just stick the sensor on the inside of the windshield (inside the wiped area), and replace the regular intermittent relay with the relay that hangs on the end of the wire from the sensor. This is exactly what the new Golfs and Boras come with from the factory.
