Multivan was (and is with the Eurovan, over here called T4) a special version for the private people. It was introduced
around 1985 after 5 years with cargo-vans and sport-vans for the business-people.
The Multivan was build by Westfalia and has the following equipment:
2 Captain Chairs
1 seat with storage-box under the cushion behind the driver-seat, facing to the tail
1 folding seat-bench in the rear including a mattress over the engine-compartment, which gave a good bed for two.
This bench had also an storage-area under the cushion.
1 12 Volt cooling-box behind the passenger-seat
1 fold-out table on the driver side, where on the passenger-side the sliding door is
special plastic-covered wood-floor in the rear.
Special side-walls, molded in Plastic.
You could order special options like an pop-up-roof and many other things.
Starting around 1987, they introduced special runs, which were built in Hannover up to 1990 and after that in Austria
That models are named Whitestar, Bluestar, Redstar and at last LLE (Limited Last Edition).
All had an Multivan-Interior except the cooling-box. Instead the cooling-box, they had an additional seat. This seats
had no storage-area and could be fold up.
With 1990, it could be a model of the LLE or Blue/Redstar-series.
The LLE was limited to 2,500 Vanagons, but only 2,499 where free available. #2,500 went direct to the manufacturer-
For the overwhelming success with the LLE-series, they produced additional Blue- and Redstars, but in the same
colour as the LLE (only available in darkblue and bright red). The original Bluestar was an bright metallic blue.
The LLE is cult over here, and there is a special LLE-interest group. This people are really disappointed about the (if
I remember correct 500) later built Blue/Redstars.
This latest rear-wheel-drive series was built from spare parts. As example, there are a couple of Vanagons on the
road, which have on one side of the front-axle parts for a Vanagon with ABS and on the other side for without ABS.
The LLE price-range here is between 12,000 DM for a LLE in not so good condition up to more than 20,000 for
better condition. The actual exchange rate between the DM and the $ is 2.05 DM per $.
