No, it is not. The gauge sender is the little one with a single connector on the thermostat housing, and the temp sender for the ECU is the big one next to it with the large two contact plug type connector.

It needs to be removed and heated in water to test, and you need an ohmmeter and thermometer and compare the readings with those in the Bentley. You need to plug the hole when you remove it to avoid losing coolant, so, the easiest way to check it is to buy a new one and see if it solves the problem! Take it back if it doesn't. Or see if someone on the list will send you a bad one to use as a plug!
