Though I don't have this table config in my Westy, I see this problem
reported constantly here on the list. If I recall, Chris Jordan made a
suggestion to just remove the catch mechanism and replace it with a
magnetic-type mount instead. Doesn't sound like there is any trick to
getting it to work; rather it sounds like faulty design of the catch
mechanism. Imagine that!
