The only way to get into my aux battery compartment is to remove the driver's seat. I set my aux battery in there some time ago and have never had to go back into it. Due to the overhang of the seat base over the lid, this is the only way to access it. Don't over tighten the seat base mounting nuts, or you won't be able to swivel the seat at all. A little grease in the circular groove , and a little playing woth the tension on the nuts, and your seat should swivel a lot easier. Still gonna hit the steering wheel, but you should be able to get smoothe operation. (try opening the driver's door when you swivel.) Cheers, Keith 81 Vanagon
