Subject: Headlights, Fans and the Wiper/Headlight Stalk Control

Volks -

I'm not a great believer in coincidence.

Last week I discovered that the headlights on my '87 Westy weren't working, and asked for advice on checking out the headlight switch. Based on various people's suggestions, we decided that it was the wiper/headlight/cruise stalk control, and I ordered one from Camelback ($75, regularly $100). It is supposed to get here on Friday, so I have been a daylight only driver.

A couple of days ago, it was warm enough that I decided to turn on the AC and see how it had survived the winter. The fan wouldn't run. Checked out the fuses, front and back. They were all OK. Then I tried the front and rear heater fans. They wouldn't run either, so I got to wondering if there was a connection with the stalk.

Sure enough, when I pull the stalk back to the highbeam position, all of the fans will run.

Interesting, no?

I'll see what happens when the new part is in, and let you know.
