My '82 flywheel has 5 bolt holes in an irregular pattern that can only be mounted one way if all 5 bolts are installed. I can't imagine a way that it could be off. How do you know the engine is at TDC? Are you looking at the #1 piston? Are you sure it's a diesel Vanagon flywheel? Mike Snow Camp Pendleton, California 1982 Westfalia 1.6TD 1983 ASI 1.6D

Does anyone know if it's possible to install a flywheel incorrectly on a 1.6 diesel. My engine isn't on tdc when I align the flywheel and bell housing marks. If so, how do I know the correct position if I were to remove the flywheel and reinstall it?
