Keith, Well, it is a good sign that the TV set comes with a cigarette lighter plug... Can you tell us how many amps it draws? My guess would be that it will be okay on the alternator, but I might have some concern for how many amps they are putting through the cigarette lighter socket.... the wires that supply it are pretty small... I forget the gauge. Hi all, We are prepping our 87 Wolfsburg automatic for a trip from NY to Orlando for the kids first Disney trip. Now today, while hoofing it through our local wherehouse type store we happened upon a small AC/DC color TV/VCR combo with cigarette lighter power plug (now we’re not real TV addicts but the thought of making a trip of that distance with a 10 & 2yr old in the back is a challenge that a few well placed feature flix could help us conquer) Is there any threshold of power draw that I should look for in such a plug in unit running a stock alternator? Could such a unit hasten the demise of an otherwise healthy charging system? Would it help that it is an automatic and that in order to keep up with highway speed, revs of steady 3800ish is not uncommon? TIA Keith Olsen 87 Wolfsburg GL 82 Diesel L 79 Loaf 85 Golf diesel |
