You mentioned engines having been replaced by VW of Canada.

When my 88GL blew the engine last fall, I elected to get another engine and
keep the existing one. After teardown on the old engine I discovered a VW of
Canada sticker on the blown engine. When I bought the 88GL it had come from an
auction lot in Georgia, and ever opening was plugged by dirt dauber nests. It
had been sitting a long time somewhere. There was only 78,000 on it when I
bought it.

I have been mystified by that sticker. I have come to take it as meaning that
the engine had been replaced one time before. If so it calls into question the
vehicles past. It also makes me wonder if that VW of Canada case and crankshaft
.....which says right on it "Remanufactured  by VW of Canada" can be reused.

Comments would be appreciated.
