Hi Volks

It's the top seam of the rocker that's rusted through. There is little sign of rust at the bottom where it is welded to the underside panel. There are no signs of rust through on the bottom of the panel. The PO said he parked it for long periods of time in an area where a lawn sprinkler sprayed the rocker area. The drain hole covers are in place and in good condition.

I guess I'll find out whether the rust started from the inside or outside when I remove the appliances and look at it from the inside.

Does anyone know if new rocker panels are available? I've tried RMMW and Mill Supply but neither list replacement panels for the vanagon. The BusDepot carries a few body panels but doesn't have this one as far as I can see.

Hello Volks

The drivers side rocker panel seam is rusted through on my new 90 Westy. I assume this is related to the effects of the insulation behind the panel. The rocker and the lower section of the side panel needs to be replaced. I assume this is a fairly common problem on the Westys.

1. Are there replacement panels available to repair this problem?

2. Is there a repair panel available that would replace the rocker panel and extend above the rusted bottom section of the side panel?

3. Will I need to remove the appliances (refrigerator, stove and sink)to give the body shop access to the interior to do the job correctly?

Any/all input is greatly appreciated.

Gary
